Build, test, improve! Come to Engineering Expo at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center on Saturday, March 2 from 11 to 3. Compete in three epic and engaging engineering challenges and enjoy a whole day of serious fun. Engineering Expo is generously sponsored by Bartlett & West and Westar Energy.

Design a protective structure in the Egg-Citing Egg Drop, where you design and create a structure at home or at KCDC to help an egg withstand an estimated twenty foot drop. In the Skyscraper Tower Challenge, use Keva Planks to create amazingly tall towers. Can you break the KCDC record of 11.25 feet? Race against the constraints of time and materials in the Balloon Structure Build to construct the tallest freestanding balloon structure. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each of the three competitions and will be announced at 3:30.

Community partners will offer additional engineering and technology fun. Activities will be provided by Bartlett & West, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Engineering, The Foundation for Aeronautical Education Inc., The Multiphase Microfluidics Lab at Kansas State University, Aslhee Herken Graduate Research Assistant, Platt Lab, Division of Biology at Kansas State University, Topeka Collegiate School, Washburn Tech and Westar Energy.

Regular admission applies, which is $7.75 for children and adults, $6.75 for seniors, and free for infants under 12 months and KCDC members. Admission also lets you play all day at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center with over 15,000 square feet of indoor exhibits exploring science, careers, art, building and more, plus a 4.5 acre certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom.
