Going Wild at the Discovery Center

On Thursday, October 11th the Association of Children’s Museums announced that the Kansas Children’s
Discovery Center has been selected as a “Good to Grow! Going Wild at Children’s Museums” pilot site.
Positioning the Discovery Center as a model to bring sustainable natural spaces that promote play and learning
to communities, for the whole nation!

Children’s museums across the nation submitted proposals for consideration, the expansion of the Discovery Center’s
Outdoor Learning Adventure
was one of three projects awarded “Going Wild” grant funds in the amount of $65,000
and requires the Discovery Center to match with an additional $65,000.

Using its $65,000 Going Wild grant, the Discovery Center will be kicking things up in the Phase II Outdoor Learning
Adventure with a “Streams, Dreams and Other Things Water Play” area as well as a series
of berm tunnels,
a Monarch Watch site and a Native Kansas Medicinal Plants Garden and more. Additionally, the museum has
gathered more than 80 local partners to provide additional educational outreach and resources.
