Volunteers are an important and vital part of the Kansas Children's Discovery Center!
What is the process to become a volunteer?
Volunteer positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis – we hope to hear from you soon!
What are the volunteer requirements? All volunteers must be at least 14 years old, successfully complete a background check and attend an on-site orientation before their first volunteer shift. Most volunteer positions ask for a TWO shift per month time commitment as noted on the application. KCDC is looking for customer-oriented, postive and energetic volunteers who love interacting with children. Volunteers must be willing to volunteer for at least 3 months or more at KCDC.
What are the volunteer positions? Volunteers are our greatest resource and there are many ways to make a difference at the Discovery Center! Volunteers assist with guest services, special events, field trips, birthdays as well as assist on the floor in the exhibit areas. For more detail, please review page 4 of the volunteer application.
Do I have to attend an orientation before I can volunteer? Yes. The on-site orientation will provide an overview of our mission, volunteer expectations and dress code; as well as a tour and training. Orientations are scheduled monthly and last for one hour. After you complete an application, a representative from the volunteer department will call you to schedule you for the next volunteer orientation.
I am under 18 years old, can I volunteer? Of course! We welcome volunteers ages 14 – 17. Teens who would like to volunteer with us in the summer will be asked to complete an one-hour orientation and an one-hour training prior to their first shift. Youth must commit to completing 4 shifts a month or one shift per week during the summer months. Teen Volunteer Application print off our copy today, once completed mail it in or bring it by the Discovery Center.
My group would like to volunteer, is that possible? Of course! KCDC welcomes businesses, civic groups or other organizations to volunteer on a one-time or seasonal basis. Please contact Jamie Crispin directly to find out how to get your group involved with KCDC!
Benefits?
Each volunteer who completes 50 hours of volunteer service will receive 2 free passes to the Discovery Center. In addition, all KCDC jobs are posted internally to the volunteer corps before posted externally. KCDC volunteers receive a monthly e-newsletter, attend recognition events and have the chance to meet other volunteers during every shift.
