Mobile Museum at SENT Topeka

The premier children’s museum in Kansas is coming to SENT Topeka on Wednesday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon! The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center Mobile Museum is packed with hands-on, educational play for all ages. Create art, build with real tools, explore technology, experience the power of air, run a restaurant, practice engineering, and more, with Discovery Center educators and US Bank volunteers on-hand to engage the whole family in playful learning adventures. New and exciting financial literacy experiences made possible by US Bank!

Community for Kids: A free, peaceful play event to create community conversations for children and families

As part of its mission to serve the children and community of Northeast Kansas, the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will host Community for Kids, a free, peaceful play event to create community conversations for children and families tonight, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the museum, 4400 S.W. 10th Ave. in Gage Park.

This event includes:

  • Free museum admission.
  • Community resources from Valeo, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library and others.
  • Peaceful, healing activities including yoga and art for families and children of all ages.
  • Tips and recommended books for age-appropriate conversations.

“These horrific events weigh heavily on us as an organization whose purpose is to bring joy and enrich the lives of children and their families,” said Dene’ Mosier, Discovery Center President and CEO. “No child should feel unsafe, whether at school, in public places or at home. It is our duty as a community to make sure our children are given a peaceful environment in which to heal and connect to community resources.”

Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies is hatching at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center! This remarkable hands-on exhibition offers an astounding array of authentic dinosaur eggs and nests collected from all over the globe, in addition to great hands-on play experiences! Kids can dig for eggs, dress up like a parent dinosaur to brood their nest, and feel the texture of dinosaur eggs. Cute babies and fun dinosaur facts will keep the whole family playing and learning.

Tiny Titans will be open from Feb. 24 to May 30 as a part of Topeka Dino Days, a community-wide dinosaur exhibition that includes Dinosaurs Alive at the nearby Topeka Zoo and Sue: The T-Rex Experience at the Great Overland Station.

Regular admission applies, which is $9 for children and adults, $8 for seniors and free for infants under 12 months and Discovery Center members. Volcano Chemistry

Massive volcanic eruptions impacted the climate in the age of the dinosaurs, creating the conditions that helped dinosaurs dominate earth. Erupt your own—much smaller—volcano using chemistry at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center.

Paleo-art Exploration

Paleontologists cannot be sure what color dinosaurs really were, what their skin looked like, or even whether or not they had feathers! When paleo-artists are drawing or sculpting dinosaurs, they use their imaginations. Use what you know about dinosaurs to sculpt using playdough and recycled materials at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center!

Dino Cam

Paleontologists use underground cameras to study things that are difficult to excavate, helping them learn about how dinosaurs lived. Use an underground camera to see beneath the soil at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. The museum is open special spring break hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
