Make a Success Card for a Kenyan Student
Oct 1 – Oct 20 all-day
Make a Success Card for a Kenyan Student @ Kansas Children's Discovery Center

In Kenya, students graduating to middle primary (4th grade) or upper primary (6th grade) levels are expected to pass an end-of-year exam in October. These exams are extremely important in the Kenyan education system and students want to do their best! During October, visitors to the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will have the opportunity to create success cards to send to students of Subuku Primary School in Egerton Njoro, Kenya. The Discovery Center will mail the cards to wish students well on their upcoming exams.

This program is offered as part of Kenya’s Kids, a new cultural exhibit where families can discover what life is like for children in Kenya today, a country both technologically-advanced and filled with longtime traditions. Kenya’s Kids magically transports visitors into the lives of children living in Kenya, bringing the experience to life to encourage children to not just learn about, but also participate in a new culture as they travel through five immersive environments. Kenya’s Kids is open at the Discovery Center from September 13, 2019 to January 4, 2020.

Regular admission applies, which is $7.75 for children and adults, $6.75 for seniors, and free for infants under 12 months and Discovery Center members. Admission also lets you play all day at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center with over 15,000 square feet of indoor educational exhibits exploring science, careers, art, building and more, plus a 4.5 acre certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom. The story is a fun and engaging folktale about animals in the jungle learning about the difference between strength and violence. This event is a part of the YWCA Week Without Violence, a week of events designed to engage the community in discussions about preventing gender-based violence.

Regular admission applies, which is $7.75 for children and adults, $6.75 for seniors, and free for infants under 12 months and KCDC members.
