How much does it cost to rent the Discovery Center?
Rentals are $250 for two hours and 15 guests. Add an additional hour to your rental for $100. Add additional guests at our regular admission of $9 plus tax per person up to 30 people total. Current Discovery Center members receive 10% off rentals. All proceeds from rentals support your community, nonprofit children's museum.
When are rentals generally available?
Rentals generally available when the museum is not otherwise open to the public, including most weekday evenings and Sunday mornings.
Are masks required during my rental?
Yes. Masks covering the mouth and nose are required in alignment with guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We understand that some guests may be unable to utilize face masks and we offer reasonable accommodation by allowing the use of an approved, clear face shield. Mask policies will be strictly enforced by Discovery Center staff for the safety of guests, our staff, and the community. We will instruct visitors who do not follow these requirements to leave the museum.
How else are you reducing risk?
See our infection control procedures for more information about how we clean. The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center cares deeply about its employees and visitors and is taking new measures that focus on health and safety in response to COVID-19. Our goal is to reduce the risks to you, other visitors, and our staff. Nonetheless, COVID-19 is very contagious and there is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public environment where people are present. Those visiting the museum do so at their own risk of exposure.
How long does our rental last?
Rentals last for two hours. You may add an additional hour to your rental for $100.
How many people am I allowed to bring to my rental?
The $250 rental includes 15 people, other guests may be added for the cost of regular admission, $9 per person plus tax, up to 30 people. Additional guests must be paid for in advance of your visit. You are responsible for ensuring any additional households attending with you complete the required waiver prior to arrival at the Discovery Center.

What is the cancellation policy?
If the Discovery Center can’t honor your rental for any reason, you will be given the opportunity to move your rental date and time or request a full refund. If you are unable to honor your rental time, you will forfeit your $50 deposit. If you or any one in your rental group has been exposed to the Covid-19 virus or are experiencing symptoms, we ask that you cancel your reservation and we will work with you to reschedule or refund your deposit. Safety is our top priority.
May we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes, you may bring your own food and drinks. Eating is only permitted outdoors while seated at a table. The Discovery Center is a smoke and alcohol free facility. Snacks and drinks are sold at the front desk.
May we rent the Discovery Center for our grown-up gathering?
As during normal operations, adults must be accompanied by children and children must be accompanied for adults. For business, corporate or other adult rental options, contact us.
Is the outdoor area still available for time, ticketed entry?
Yes! The Discovery Center Outdoor Classroom, 4.5 acres of serious fun, is still open for timed, ticketed entry. Advance tickets/registrations are required. Book your playtime now. Public admission is not scheduled alongside private rentals.
Why is the Discovery Center not fully open to the public?
We are optimistic that we will be able to reopen our indoor exhibits to the public this spring. We are excited to share an indoor open date as soon as possible. The timing of our public indoor reopening will focus on the health and safety of our community and staff members. At this time, allowing private rentals is the safest option for our community. We miss our visitors, and hope to fully open as soon as possible!
