A special event brought families from HopeKids KC to the museum for a night of fun.

October 4, 2024 – The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center hosted a special after-hours event for Medical Warrior families this week in collaboration with HopeKids Kansas City. The free event was designed for families with medically-fragile children to connect with other families and have fun!

“Our families had the BEST time.” shared Courtney Gilmore from HopeKids. “Nearly all that attended had yet to visit the Discovery Center before, and we have heard rave reviews about their experience. THANK YOU for your generosity in allowing our families to experience the Discovery Center.”

This event is just a part of the museum’s Medical Warriors program, a free program designed to allow medically fragile children or those battling life-limiting illnesses to come to the museum after-hours for a private play time. Children experience high-quality, hands-on learning experiences with their families, while avoiding the crowds that exist while the museum is open. The program started in 2016, inspired by Rachel Howland, a 6-year-old girl with neuroblastoma. The program is free for families, funded by generous donors.
