Engineer a Hive with Fort Boards

Bees are amazing engineers, building uniquely shaped cells to create a sturdy hive. Use your engineering skills to design a hive big enough for your whole colony using Fort Boards on Saturday, August 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 15 from noon to 5 p.m.

This program is offered as part of Discover Bees, a new exhibit where families can step into the world of bees! Explore a hollow tree bee habitat, operate a honey stand, pollinate flowers, run an entomology lab and get all the buzz about the critical role of pollinators in the Kansas environment and economy. Explore real pollinator habitats outdoors in the Discovery Center’s tallgrass prairie, monarch waystation, and pollinator garden. This special exhibit created by the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will be open July 9 to September 5, 2021.

Regular admission applies, which is $9 for children and adults, $8 for seniors, and free for infants under 12 months and Discovery Center members. Ask the Pediatricians LIVE with Dr. Holly Serk and Dr. Lauren Olson

Join us on Wednesday, July 20 at noon for Ask the Pediatricians LIVE with Dr. Holly Serk and Dr. Lauren Olson from our generous sponsors and supporters at Pediatric Associates. The session is hosted by the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center on Facebook as part of the Discovery Baby program. Dr. Serk and Dr. Olson will discuss a few things all parents need to know as we get ready to go back to school, and take your questions live!

Discovery Kindergarten Fair

The Discovery Kindergarten Fair is a fun-filled event to connect kids and caregivers with resources to get them ready for school. Kids will learn about riding the bus and what to expect in the classroom. Health screenings will be available and representatives from community organizations will be on-hand to offer resources and answer questions.
