Launch Week: Robot Launchers

Scientists use robots to investigate areas of space humans can’t safely explore. Be in control of your own mission by using coding logic to help robots launch objects on Friday, June 21 at 10:30 and 1:30 and Saturday, June 22 at 1:30 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. This astronomical activity is part of Launch Week at Discovery Space, a special summer exhibit that invites you to experience out-of-this-world fun! Climb aboard the rocket ship, contact mission control, dress up for a space race and learn about the science of space at the Discovery Center through August 14.

Regular admission applies, which is $7.75 for children and adults, $6.75 for seniors, and free for infants under 12 months and KCDC members. Admission also lets you play all day at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center with over 15,000 square feet of indoor educational exhibits exploring science, careers, art, building and more, plus a 4.5 acre certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom.

Launch Week: Stomp Rockets

Have a blast with rockets at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center on Thursday, June 20 at 10:30 and 1:30. Learn about how some rockets carry science tools into space, and how a special kind of rocket called “”sounding rockets”” can be used for quick, low-flying scientific missions into space. Then build and launch your own air rockets to help imagine the challenges and triumphs of engineering spacecraft and launching them into the space above our planet! Program created by the National Informal STEM Education Network. Launch Week: Balloon Rockets

Scientists use rockets to get people and equipment into space. Getting a rocket to go requires just the right mix of force and acceleration. Design, build and launch a balloon rocket on Wednesday, June 19 at 1:30 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. This astronomical activity is part of Launch Week at Discovery Space, a special summer exhibit that invites you to experience out-of-this-world fun! Climb aboard the rocket ship, contact mission control, dress up for a space race and learn about the science of space at the Discovery Center through August 14.

Launch Week: Rocket Reactions

Explore rocket reactions as an exciting way to learn about how materials interact, behave, and change on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:30. Use a chemical reaction to launch plastic caps into the air, and experiment to discover the best mix of fuel for your rocket. Program created by the National Informal STEM Education Network.
