About the Pirate Ship
Ahoy! Set sail on Seas the Day, on our 25 foot long wooden pirate ship featuring portholes, a captain’s wheel, a 20-foot mast and ramp entry. Wee captains can ring the chime to call the crew and start their pirate adventures!
Fun Facts
The ship was designed and built by Discovery Center exhibit construction expert Draque Carver with support from volunteers. It opened in May of 2019. The mast is a recycled utility pole. Discovery Center visitors and social media followers chose the ship’s name. Children suggested over 150 names and voters picked between their top five suggestions: The Sunflower, Ship’s Ahoy, Ship, Ship Hooray!, Seas the Day and Boatie. Seas the Day, suggested by six year old Macy Archer and mom Samantha Archer, of Carbondale, won the voting!
