What do volunteers do at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center?
The Discovery Center is a nonprofit children’s museum built to inspire a lifelong love of learning for every child. Volunteers aid our mission by creating these memorable experiences for every family who walks through our doors. Volunteers engage children in fun educational activities, pitch in at special events, maintain our outdoor space, help facilitate field trips, celebrate birthdays, and keep exhibit areas ready for play.
- Complete the Adult Volunteer Application (18 and up) or Teen Volunteer Form (14-17) online to get started!
- Receive an initial email from the volunteer coordinator
- Attend an on-site orientation
- Successfully pass a background check (18 and older)
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, successfully complete a background check (18 and older), and attend an on-site orientation before their first volunteer shift. Volunteers must enjoy interacting with young children and families.
After you complete an application, the volunteer coordinator will call you to schedule your orientation. The hour-long on-site orientation will provide an overview of our mission, volunteer expectations, and a tour of the museum.
Yes! The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center welcomes businesses, civic groups, or other organizations to volunteer on a one-time or seasonal basis. Outdoor and indoor projects are available. Please contact the volunteer coordinator to learn more or schedule your day of volunteering.
In addition to the serious fun, each volunteer who completes 50 hours of volunteer service will receive two free passes to the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. Discovery Center volunteers receive a regular e-mail newsletter, attend recognition events, and have the chance to meet other great volunteers.
