Sawdusters local woodworking club crafts custom pieces to support the museum
The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center thrives thanks to people who step up, pitch in, and build something lasting!
This winter, we were thrilled when members of the Sawdusters, a local woodworking club, reached out to ask how they could support the museum. They visited in January, met with staff, and thoughtfully assessed how their talents could best serve our visitors. The result? Eight beautifully crafted wooden stepstools and seven play prop storage boxes—designed with care, built to last, and made with children in mind.
Club member Tim Vincent created custom patterns for the pieces, tailoring each design to fit the needs of our space and the scale of our young visitors. The stepstools feature inset screws for safety and durability, offering just the right boost for curious kids. The storage boxes, built with classic dovetail joints, are sturdy, timeless, and perfect for keeping our exhibits organized.
This wasn’t just a quick weekend project. The Sawdusters poured hours of craftsmanship into each piece, working closely with our team to make sure every joint was tight and every corner kid-safe. Their handiwork is now part of daily life at the museum, helping children play, learn, and discover—one step at a time.
We are so grateful to the Sawdusters for sharing their time, talent, and tools. When it comes to finding creative ways to give back, you really nailed it!
