10th Birthday Week!

The Discovery Center turns 10 on June 1, 2021! We’re celebrating our birthday for a full week (why not?!) from June 2-6 with free admission for 10 year olds, 10% off everything in the Discovery Shop, and more fun surprises! Join us to celebrate 10 years of serious fun!

Happy Parents, Happy Baby: a Discovery Baby Workshop (virtual)

Being a first-time parent with a baby can be both wonderful and incredibly stressful, sometimes in the course of the same night! Get tips on caring for yourself as a new parent with licensed psychologist Susan Voorhees PsyD. This workshop will be offered live on Facebook on Tuesday, May 18 from 10 to 11 a.m.

This workshop is offered as a part of Discovery Baby, a free, fun program that introduces babies and their caregivers to a world of learning and play. Learn more at www.kansasdiscovery.org/baby.

What’s in the outdoor classroom? Become a bike racer, pond biologist, mountain climber, or pirate of the high seas as you adventure on 4.5 outdoor acres at The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center! The outdoor adventure area at the premier children’s museum of Kansas features a pirate ship, treehouse, music garden, stream, bikes, trikes, wagons, challenge courses, a child-friendly zipline, giant sandbox, and more. The space has earned national recognition as a Certified Nature Explore Classroom from the Nature Explore program. Nature Explore Outdoor Classrooms offer interactive elements such as musical instruments made of natural materials, garden and pathway areas, and natural materials for building and creating art. Open green space allows families to try a disc golf game, enjoy a picnic or relax by a steam. Paved and natural paths wind through shaded woods, revealing hidden tunnels and exciting discoveries, perfect for fueling the imaginations of little explorers.

The cleaning and infection control procedures in place at the Discovery Center are based on our strict internal guidelines as well as the safety guidelines and requirements issued by local health experts and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All high touch surfaces and restrooms are sanitized after each session using an aqueous ozone device or appropriate medical-grade cleansers. Masks are required for all Discovery Center visitors age 6 and up when in line to enter the facility, when inside the building using restrooms and outdoors anytime when six feet of social distancing from other families cannot be maintained.
