Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Gift Supports STEAM Exhibit

The Kansas Children's Discovery Center was honored with a $5,000 gift from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in support of the highly-anticipated traveling exhibit Curious George: Let's Get Curious, scheduled for this fall. The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation has a long history of generous support for the nonprofit children's museum, particularly for exhibits and experiences that bring families together for educational play. The new traveling exhibit will introduce young children to Curious George's world and lead visitors on a fun, meaningful interactive math, science, and engineering-based adventure.

Based on the familiar characters in H.A. and Margret Rey's classic stories published by Houghton Mifflin, the new Curious George exhibit inspires young children's natural curiosity as they explore early science, math, and engineering through hands-on interactive play. The immersive exhibit environment takes place in the neighborhood where Curious George lives with his friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat. Visitors will recognize familiar characters and places featured in the classic stories and PBS KIDS television series. The exhibit's content is based on educational standards developed by the Minnesota Children's Museum and an expert advisory panel to the PBS KIDS series, as well as national science and math standards for young children.

This exhibit, as part of the larger museum experience, will be accessible to all children. More than one in three Discovery Center admissions are free or discounted, including over 1,000 annual Museums for All admissions for families receiving TANF or WIC and more than 5,000 field trip visitors from schools with a high percentage of children receiving free or reduced-cost lunches. Special programs serve children with incarcerated mothers, medically fragile children, children with autism, and children in foster care. These programs are made possible through the generosity of donors like The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, who share the museum's vision of creating rich, diverse museum experiences for every child.
