Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites Opens!

Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites Opens!

The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center opened Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites on Friday, September 30. The opening event was attended by dozens of exhibit sponsors, community leaders, and excited local families. The mouse from featured book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff was on-hand to meet fans of all ages.

This nationally-traveling exhibit, built by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, transforms seven beloved and award-winning picture books into larger-than-life play and learning environments that highlight the pre-reading skills. The exhibit will be open September 30, 2022 to January 2, 2023 and is included in the cost of regular admission.

Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites is the seventh major traveling exhibit brought to Topeka by the Discovery Center. Special exhibits, like last spring’s Tiny Titans dinosaur experience, have a strong history of driving out-of-town visitors to Topeka while offering new experiences to local families. In Storyland, Children explore literacy skills and concepts through imaginative, interactive experiences and dramatic play.

Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites is locally sponsored by Stormont-Vail Health, Security Benefit, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, Visit Topeka, Central National Bank, Polo Custom Products, People’s Insurance Group, Mize CPAs Inc., KBS Constructors, Jamie Hornbaker State Farm Agent, Dobski & Associates, Azura Credit Union, BT&Co. and Clayton Wealth Partners. The exhibit is nationally sponsored by Target and the Minnesota Children’s Museum. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
