Is your child starting kindergarten this fall? Then the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center has a perfect resource for you!
The museum’s Discovery Kindergarten program helps children prepare for starting kindergarten through several single-day camps and a fair throughout June and July that help improve school readiness. The programs are free, fun resources for all incoming kindergarten students, regardless of school. Registration is done online for each of the camps and the fair.
Camp Kindergarten
Children and their caregivers come to the Discovery Center when the facility is normally closed for a special educational playtime and chance to explore a simulated classroom with teachers. The camps will take place from 4-6 p.m. June 13, 20, 27 and July 11 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, 4400 S.W. 10th Ave. in Topeka. Spanish-speaking teachers will be available at the final camp on July 11 (Los maestros de habla hispana estarán disponibles en el campamento final el 11 de julio). Virtual versions of Camp Kindergarten were recorded in 2020 and are available online in English and Spanish.
Discovery Kindergarten Fair
The Discovery Kindergarten Fair is a communitywide celebration of all things kindergarten! The Discovery Center opens with free admission and dozens of community partners on hand to offer activities, learning resources, health screenings and more! A real school bus helps kids prepare for bus-riding, and the full museum is open for play.
