Hy-Vee Free Family Fun Night

Hy-Vee Free Family Fun Nights are extended hours events where the public is invited to play at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center for free. Thanks to generous support from Hy-Vee, local families can come to the museum with their caregivers or mentors at no cost to their families.

Participants enjoy educational play in The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center’s 15,000+ square feet of indoor exhibits exploring science, careers, art, building and more, plus a 4.5 acre certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom. Special programs designed by KCDC educators help children explore science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) goals.

Hy-Vee support enables the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center to pursue its goal of being accessible to everyone and gives children the opportunity to participate in high quality STEAM learning opportunities with caregivers. Limited space available.

STEAM Saturdays | 1:00

Wee Wednesdays | 10:30

Wee Wednesdays are interactive fun to get kids using their senses to explore! Programs start at 10:30 am outside of the grow gallery. Sensory play is essential to brain development, allowing children to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways while utilizing all of their senses to learn. While participating in sensory play, children’s natural desire to explore is stimulated. They use scientific processes while playing, exploring, creating and investigating.

Toddler Tuesdays | 10:30

Toddler Tuesdays are interactive fun to get kids moving!  Sponsored in part by Kansas Ballet Academy, programs start at 10:30 am outside of the art pavilion. Participants get the chance to dance, move, make noise, and have serious fun. Movement is an important way toddlers learn. Young children who are moving are discovering their full range of motion, developing body awareness, and fine-tuning their balance, muscle strength, and coordination.
