Join us for a whole day of dino-mite fun on Saturday, September 28 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. Create a dinosaur habitat with playdough at 10:30, meet Discover-saurus Rex at 11:30, build dinosaur nests outside at 1:30, create clay fossils at 2:30 and explore dinosaur slime at 3:30. Stomp around the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center and practice your roar!

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Avast! Little mateys arrrrr invited to Talk Like a Pirate Day on Thursday, September 19 from 9 to 3 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Centerrrrrrr. We be givin’ away eyepatches and temporary tattoos for all wee pirates while the treasure holds out! Then launch yer own pirate adventure with yer salty crew on the Seas the Day, our outdoor pirate ship!

Worldwide Day of Play: Make a Kenyan Flag

All around the world, kids play! Celebrate the Worldwide Day of Play with an African Playground experience on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30, then make a Kenyan flag at 1:30 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. In African Playground, Kansas City Young Audiences will share some of the games, dances, and music of Eastern Africa to help us discover the role these activities play in the everyday lives of African children. African Playground is generously sponsored by the Blanche Bryden Foundation.

This program is offered as part of Kenya’s Kids, a new cultural exhibit where families can discover what life is like for children in Kenya today, a country both technologically-advanced and filled with longtime traditions. Kenya’s Kids magically transports visitors into the lives of children living in Kenya, bringing the experience to life to encourage children to not just learn about, but also participate in a new culture as they travel through five immersive environments. Kenya’s Kids is open at the Discovery Center from September 13, 2019 to January 4, 2020.

Grandparent’s Day Celebration

Join us for a grand celebration of grandparents at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center on Grandparent’s Day, Sunday, September 8 from 1 to 5 pm. All grandparents receive half-price admission. Children and caregivers can make a card for their special person at the art table.

Air Cannon Fun

Air moves from areas of high pressure to low pressure, and by creating pressure, you can use the power of air to do amazing things! Use an air cannon to knock over towers on Saturday, September 7 at 1:30 at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center.

Labor Day STEAM Celebration

Play on Labor Day during special hours on Monday, September 2 at at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. We’ll be open from 10 to 5 with great STEAM activities designed to get little engineers building, testing and improving. At 10:30, build a boat with natural materials and see if it floats in our pond! At 1:30, practice your coding skills with Dash, everybody’s favorite robot friend.

Kenya’s Kids Opening Day

Join us for the grand opening of Kenya’s Kids at the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center on Friday, September 13 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Discovery Center members may join us for an exclusive preview from 8 AM to 9 AM. KU’s African Drum Ensemble will perform at 9 AM.

In this new cultural exhibit, families can discover what life is like for children in Kenya today, a country both technologically-advanced and filled with longtime traditions. As they travel through five immersive environments, children can compare the similarities and differences between their lives and those of children in the East African country of Kenya.
